History

Our Story

After more than 100 years in business, Hupp Electric Motors continues to power businesses and industry to keep them running efficiently.

1912
Hupp Electric motors was founded and the primary focus of the business was installation of wiring and motors in grain mills, elevators and creameries.
Julian Hupp
1938
Julian took over the business in 1938 after the passing of his father. Business activity began to change towards the sale and repair of electric motors.
1942
The business moved to 353 Second Ave SW due to the need for additional space.
Hupp Machine Shop
1955
In house machine shop was added.
Rotor Balance
1965
In house machine shop was added.
1968
A devastating fire destroyed the Second Ave building.
1969
A new facility on 33rd Ave SW was completed in 1969.
1970
Bob Hupp took over the business in 1970 when his father Julian retired.
Power Lift Inc
1982
Added a new division called Power Lift, Inc., as well as field services for electronic equipment.
2005
Kevin Hupp purchased the business in 2005 when Bob Hupp retired.
2012
Hupp Electric Motors celebrates 100 years in business!
Hupp Electric Motors Marion Iowa
2015
The need for additional space prompted Kevin to purchase the Kwik-Way building in Marion, IA. A 75’x200’ building was added to house our Large Motor and Rewind Departments.
2015
50 ton crane installed.
2016
Summit Lathe installed with a Capacity of 20’, 80,000 lbs, and a 98” Swing.
2016
200,000 lbs of concrete were poured to isolate our Motor Test Pad from outside vibration.
